SRINAGAR: In a shocking incident, a lieutenant-colonel was shot dead inside a heavily guarded camp in north Kashmir.
Defence sources said a trooper fired at him mistaking him for a militant.
However, police sources said the officer and the trooper died during an altercation inside the camp...
In the subsequent firing at the camp in Baramulla on Tuesday night, the trooper too was killed.

Defence sources said Lt-Col A K Gursau was on a routine night guard inspection when a sentry mistook him for a militant and opened fire killing him on the spot.
In another incident, a ruling People''s Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Saifuddin Khan, was shot dead by unidentified militants at Kokernag in Anantnag in south Kashmir on Tuesday night.
Saifuddin had joined the PDP recently after his retirement from the police department.
Militants also shot dead a Jammu and Kashmir police official namely M A Sheikh as well as another person identified as Sikander Khan at Kulgam in South Kashmir early on Wednesday morning, police said.
One Ghulam Nabi was killed in a mine blast in a field at Batpora Kulgam today, police said.
